About this opportunity: 

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our March Break Camp programs as volunteers. As a volunteer, you will work alongside paid staff members to provide a fun and safe environment for campers. 

There are two camps happening this coming March Break, among which you will be allocated to based on your preferences and program needs: 

  • Math Elites + U March Break Camp 
  • March Break Camp at YRDSB Schools 

Key responsibilities are as follows: 

  • Assist camp counsellors in leading group activities and team-building exercises 
  • Ensure campers are safe and supervised at all times 
  • Communicate effectively with campers, parents (occasionally), and other staff members 
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required 
  • Help manage disciplinary issues and conflicts that may arise 
  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of the campsite 
  • Support staff with snack and meal preparation
Note: Volunteers will have a supporting role and will not be held accountable for the entire group as a whole, while camp counsellors will have leadership roles and will be held accountable for the overall success of the camp program. 


Time commitment: 
  • Camp dates: March 11-15, 2024
  • 3.75 hours per shift: 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 12:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • (15-minute break per shift, earn 3.5 community hours per shift)

Camp locations:
  • Math Elites + U March Break Camp: Markham Public Library - Angus Glen Branch
  • March Break Camp at YRDSB Schools: TBD

A great candidate for this position will possess the following: 
  • Must be of 12 years old or older
  • At least 3 months of experience working with children, preferred
  • Ability to work and communicate well with children, parents, and staff
  • Ability to motivate children towards learning new skills
  • Ability to collaborate with others
  • Ability to demonstrate responsible, ethical, and professional conduct - YOU are the role model
  • Ability to provide support and instruction to campers and co-workers
  • *CPR-C and AED certification is an asset
Training will be provided and is required for the volunteer role.
