About This Opportunity

Organization: Ben Stelter School Fundraiser (BSSF)

Volunteer Role: Assistant Controller

Role Manager: Zachary Chia, Director of Finance

Role Overview:

The finance team would be responsible for managing all the finances for the BSSF including but not limited to tracking the amount of money raised, budgeting/ managing expenses, and creating prediction models that will allow us to estimate the amount of money schools may be able to raise this year. This role is going to be focused on keeping the fundraiser on track and making it easy for our team and the public to see the numbers going on behind the scenes. Last year, the BSSF kept its expenses to just 2.6%, much lower than the national average. This role will help ensure that we can stay around this percentage, even as the BSSF expands to more schools.

Role timeline:

The role duration is from March 2026 to January 2027. The role will have various amounts of commitment, with the role being busier in the late spring/summer months and lighter in the later fall months. Applicants can expect a commitment range of 5-7 hours a week on average with the lighter months being slightly less and with busier months being slightly more. We are able to work around schedules, but note that there may be times when work will need to be done within a certain time frame.

Key Responsibilities:

● Help build & maintain a donation tracking system to track cash & online donations from participating schools

● Help build & organize a budgeting system, tracking expenses, invoices & reimbursements

● Help build prediction models to predict & estimate revenues

● Help publish & create visual representations of expenses, both for the public and for our team

● Work with the entire team to ensure all numbers are accurate and easy for the BSSF team and the public to view and understand

Requirements:

● Basic understanding of Google Sheets (includes basic formulas, tools, and knowledge on building spreadsheets)

● Organized and able to manage tasks with minimal supervision.

● Willingness to collaborate with a team and take direction from the Financial Director and senior controller.

Incentives

● Join and contribute to a passionate, growing and successful team.

● Special reference letter written by Mike Stelter and Aariz Mawji

● An unforgettable learning & leadership experience, guiding hundreds of students in this wonderful initiative
