About This Opportunity
Doane House Hospice is a community-based hospice offering compassionate care to people who have a life-limited diagnosis/illness, caregivers, and those who are bereaved by the death of a family member or friend living in north Aurora, Newmarket, Bradford, and East Gwillimbury.
Bereavement support groups are closed groups which typically run for 6-8 weeks with 8-10 participants at various times throughout the year. Group participants have experienced the death of a loved one. Volunteers will facilitate groups in pairs with another volunteer or placement student and/or staff member.
Time Commitment: 3-5 hours per week for 6-8 week groups; groups run 4-5 times per year.
Required Qualifications:
- Bereavement group facilitators must have supported hospice clients for at least 1 year before taking the required bereavement training, or have appropriate past experience
- Completion of hospice bereavement training
- Experience facilitating groups, teaching, public speaking beneficial but not required
