About This Opportunity
The Aquatic Biosphere Society of Canada is behind the development of the Aquatic Biosphere Project, a planned eco-attraction that presents the “Story of Water” to visitors, via a public conservation aquarium, educational centre and research facility. Based in the Edmonton area, this hub for water and biodiversity will give visitors a chance to explore the life that lives in, on and around water, understanding the connections of water, biodiversity, and humanity both here and around the world. The project is in the development and funding stage.
The Society is seeking an individual to join our Board of Directors as a Director at Large. If you have an interest in becoming involved in a legacy project with wide ranging impacts, then bring your professional skills and personal passions to our table.
This is currently an operational board and you can expect to be responsible for certain tasks as fit within your skills and interests. As a group we are respectful of diverse contributions and skills, collaborative in discussion, and passionate about the mission and what is being created. Everyone has an active voice at the table, and everyone is expected to contribute.
Board meetings are held to two hours and generally held online. Team oriented project management software is used to track projects, tasks and communications between meetings, reducing the need for extensive or additional meetings. As volunteers ourselves, time is respected. The Society does not have physical offices at this time, we are a fully virtually/remote based operation.
We value candidates who are passionate about the project, and there are many aspects to be excited about. If you are interested to help continue the growth and success of this project, we would like to meet you. Be part of the 'Story of Water' with us.
(Note: We have recently had a name change (Nov 2022) and you may see the Society still referenced as 'Aquarium Society of Alberta' in some places. We are working through the transition and appreciate your understanding while this progresses.)
