About This Opportunity
Project Abraham's 12 Board of Directors play a critical role in the life and success of our organization. Meeting virtually, 10 times per year, a Board Member can contribute anywhere from 5 hours to 15 hours per month depending on the role and activities in which the Director participates.
Our board members are passionate about the important work that Project Abraham is engaged in. Canada is known for its compassionate response to bringing refugees to the safety of Canada, but once here, many newcomers are not able to thrive. In Ontario, a solid basis in English language acquisition is essential to any hope of full integration into Canadian society. However, there are a significant number of newcomers who have barriers to learning due to trauma, medical and mental health issues, lack of formal education, learning disabilities, and challenging life circumstances. Without remedial intervention, reliance on government assistance, poverty, depression, and isolation, are often the outcomes.
With programs that remove the barriers to learning, at-risk newcomers begin to thrive and become productive members of Canadian society.
Prior experience with any of the following are all assets that would be considered strengths in your application: fundraising, administration, programming, accounting, financial analysis, leadership, human resources, or strategic planning
