About This Opportunity

Camp Counsellor (In-Person)  

Position Overview  

Join us as a Camp Counsellor and make a lasting impact on youth living with arthritis. Camp Counsellors are the heart of the camp experience, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and a caring attitude to create unforgettable memories for our campers! This is your chance to connect with incredible campers and be a positive role model for them. Your presence and encouragement will help them thrive in a safe, fun, and supportive environment.  

Time Commitment  

This role requires a five-night commitment at camp, along with mandatory in-person and virtual pre-camp training to ensure you feel fully prepared for your responsibilities. Volunteers will also be required to complete a post-camp evaluation survey.   

Key Areas of Responsibility   

Supervise campers during their activities, downtime, and overnight in cabins/dorms 

 Serve as mentors and sources of support, creating a safe and inclusive environment, and helping campers build confidence. 

Support camper wellness by:  Encouraging healthy habits such as hand hygiene, sun safety, and illness prevention  

Reporting any health concerns to the medical team  Providing basic first aid when necessary 

Maintain a professional relationship with all campers that does not extend beyond the confines of the camp experience. 

 Uphold the values of Arthritis Society Canada to ensure a positive, compassionate, and inclusive environment for all  

Desired Skills, Attributes & Qualifications  

Proof of recent vulnerable sector check   

Standard First Aid and CPR-C training is an asset  

Experience working with children with chronic illnesses and in particular, arthritis  Experience working in a camp setting is ideal, however not necessary  

Passionate about and commitment to bettering the lives of those affected by arthritis

 Major Contacts  Direct supervision and support provided by Arthritis Society Canada staff  Collaboration with other volunteers, camp medical team, and program staff  

Working Environment  

Five-night, four-day camp week.  Counsellors are responsible for supervising campers and staying overnight in cabins or dorms with them  

Scheduled daily rest break  Most events take place outdoors, requiring adaptability to weather conditions.  

Work closely with other Camp Counsellors, camp staff, and Arthritis Society Canada staff  Engage directly with children, fostering fun, safety, and inclusion  

Receive training and guidance to ensure a positive experience
