About This Opportunity

The camp organizing committees are local volunteers who meet on a monthly basis (in person or virtually) to plan their regional camp week. We have camps in Northern Ontario(Sudbury), Northwestern Ontario(Thunderbay), Eastern Ontario(Ottawa), Southern Ontario(Guelph), Alberta and Manitoba.

Each camp organizing committee has a volunteer  Camp Director, Co Director or Assistant Director,  Medical Coordinator,  Family Coordinator , Volunteer Coordinator,  Fundraising Coordinator,  Secretary,   Program Coordinator, and a Social Media Specialist. Each individual camp can add roles to their organizing committee that will help with their camp needs. Please see below for camp roles and the needs of each camp.

Camp Roles:

Camp Director:  The Camp Director oversees one camp location for Camp Quality. They ensure that camp is a safe and fun experience for both campers and volunteers. In this role they ensure all policies and procedures are followed, programs are kept on budget, and that any activities demonstrate the fundamentals of intentional programming. They support their team with camper recruitment and volunteer screening, as well as camp logistics including food, transportation and medical. They work closely with our National Office to plan and facilitate volunteer training and ensure that all programs meet Accreditation requirements.

The Camp Director needs to have awesome communication and time management skills, be willing to collaborate with others, be a team player and motivate their team to achieve program success.

Assistant Camp Director:  The Assistant Camp Director supports the Camp Director with their tasks that need to be completed before camp begins and ensures the Camp Organizing Committee is on track with tasks. Typically, they will help take on certain aspects of camp preparation like supporting the programming team and facilitating on-site visitors. How the tasks will be split will vary by camp and leadership team. The Assistant Camp Director will also step in as the Camp Director if the Camp Director is away, sick, or off-site.

Medical Coordinator: The Medical Coordinator is the lead of the medical team at each of the camp locations, ensuring that we maintain a medically safe environment for all participants. They are responsible for ensuring screening campers and volunteers, procuring medical supplies and completing any necessary paperwork needed for the camp week. The Medical Coordinator will call the families to talk about the medical needs of each camper. Additionally, they will also follow up with the campers care team as needed or if the camper is on treatment. They are responsible for overseeing all on-site medical administration and first aid, as well as emergency response. The person in this position must have current registration with the College of Nurses, appropriate to the Province of respective work. Experience in paediatrics is an asset.

Family Coordinator: The Family Coordinator helps recruit and register families for camp. They are the main point of contact for the families and deliver most of the communications for camp. They help families through the application process and ensure they have all of their documentation submitted before camp begins. They also help recruit new families to camp through interactions with the local children's hospital and other camp families. At camp they communicate with the families and provide updates and they check in with campers regularly about their camp experience.

Volunteer Coordinator: The Volunteer Coordinator helps recruit and screen volunteers for camp. They are the main point of contact for volunteers and deliver most of the communications for camp. They help volunteers through the application process and ensure they have all of their documentation submitted before camp begins. They also help recruit new volunteers and ensure we have enough volunteers for the week. They recruit through word of mouth, previous volunteers, volunteer fairs, social media, and more. At camp they check-in with all of the volunteers and provide feedback as needed. Additionally, they help complete volunteer evaluations, support volunteer recognition, and provide ongoing support to volunteers as needed.

Program Coordinator: The Program Coordinator is the lead of the program team. They make sure camp is super fun and that all activities meet the fundamentals of intentional programming. The Program Coordinator works with the program team to plan out the schedule for the week, ensuring all activities are adapted to meet the psychosocial and developmental needs of our campers. They also procure all of the supplies needed for each of the activities, support with on-site visitors and off-site field trips. They help bring the magic to camp every year.

Event Coordinator: Not every Camp Organizing Committee (COC) has an Event Coordinator; some COC’s will assign this task to another role. The Event Coordinator plans year round events for the families, campers, and volunteers. This allows everyone to come together for a day or weekend of fun outside of the camp week. For community family programs, the Events Coordinator would oversee all of the planning with the support of the Camp Director and Family and Volunteer Coordinators. Ensuring that all applications are complete, communications are sent and budget is maintained.

Fundraising Coordinator:  The Fundraising Coordinator is responsible for fundraising for camp at a local level. This includes helping to organize materials for third-party events and ensuring a camp representative is in attendance. Additionally, they support camp by running and organizing fundraising events including getting sponsors and donations. They help spread awareness about Camp Quality throughout the community. With the support of the National Office, they help to ensure that their local camp is able to raise the funds to ensure that these programs are free of charge to our campers.

Secretary: The Secretary schedules the monthly Camp Organising Committee meetings. This includes putting together the agenda for each meeting and taking minutes during the meeting. They will send out the minutes to all committee members after the meeting.

Social Media Specialist: The Social Media Specialist is responsible for creating content and posting on the social media accounts for their camp. This includes posting about volunteer recruitment, camper recruitment, fundraising events, holidays, registration dates, and posting during the camp week. This position is for someone with a lot of creativity and experience with Instagram and Facebook (TikTok is an asset). This person will have access to Camp Quality branded materials on Canva.
