Volunteer Summary

Through this Bingo Volunteer position, volunteers will represent EHP and help raise much-needed funds to support our FREE programming to the senior community of Peel Region through the Ontario Charitable Gaming Association (OCGA), Charitable Gaming Community Good program.

Role Details

When you volunteer at Elder Help Peel you have real impact. It takes all of us to take on social isolation and loneliness that affects many seniors. Volunteer with us at our bingo events.

Two-hour Saturday shifts, based on availability and "on-call basis" with short notice, occasionally one time per month. These funds are allocated directly to our social programs and services for seniors, allowing EHP to continue delivering its mission and mandate.

Volunteer Position Description

  • "On call basis" shifts are 2 hours long, one or two times per month
  • Usually scheduled Saturdays, 12noon to 2:00pm or 2:00pm to 4:00pm however, the day and time may change occasionally - occasional week days/week nights, holidays
  • Volunteers work in pairs (2) per assignment
  • Walk around the bingo hall to clear and wipe down tables during and after bingo session
  • Push in chairs after bingo session has ended
  • Occasionally, help call out/identify bingo winners
  • Greet and hold doors open for Bingo Hall patrons
  • Ready to provide helpful information about Delta and its bingo sessions, if asked
  • Assist accessibility for customers with disabilities inside the hall
  • Assist staff with event/session logistics (e.g., assisting with occupancy count to manage capacity limits)
  • Thank patrons for coming
  • Direct Bingo Hall negative 'customer service' issues directly to the bingo hall coordinator and/or staff

What we're looking for

The ideal candidate for this volunteer role has:

  • Be 20+ years of age
  • Availability “on call basis” with short notice
  • Record volunteer hours using our online fillable timesheet
  • Good verbal/written English communication skills
  • Excellent people skills
  • Positive and outgoing attitude
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Ability to stand/walk about the Bingo Hall for two (2) hours
  • Must have a fully charged, operative cell phone with them (for assistance/guidance that may arise during the bingo session)
  • Adherence to Bingo Hall Dress Code: receive a golf shirt to wear during shifts, black pants (no jeans) and closed toe shoes required

Volunteer Training

Online training:

  • Complete compulsory 20 minute OCGA online training session
  • Complete compulsory 1 hour EHP training session

In-person Training:

  • Shadow an experienced volunteer at the bingo hall
Volunteer Commitment
  • This is a Long Term (more than 6 months) commitment, longer preferred
  • Volunteer hours: 2 hours per bingo assignment
