About This Opportunity
The Children’s Program Volunteer assists the Children’s Program Coordinator on day/afternoon shifts Monday-Sunday. It is the Children’s Program Volunteer’s responsibility to help in activities of program operations, which may include watching children who may or may not be accompanied by a guardian, tracking attendance, setting up activities, facilitating homework help, cleaning and sanitizing toys,
This position provides an excellent training opportunity for those interested in pursuing careers with children/youth, community service work and other related professions. As a prerequisite, applicants accepted to this position will be provided with volunteer training, which the Welcome Centre provides. Training items will include learning the appropriate boundaries with children and their parents in a shelter setting, understanding housing first and harm reduction principles and how they relate to our shelter operation, keeping the children’s space tidy, and helping to facilitate age-appropriate programming. Vulnerable Sector Police Clearance is required for this position. A requirement of a minimum of 4 hours/week and a minimum of 6 months commitment
