About This Opportunity


TIME COMMITMENT: Varying day shifts from Monday – Thursday (between 9am-4pm)
LOCATION: In-person, Sandwich site (3325 College Ave

ROLE DESCRIPTION:
  • Assist clients living with chronic conditions (ex. arthritis, MS, Parkinson’s, stroke, etc.)
  • With training, guidance, and direction from staff, volunteers will have the opportunity to help clients improve their functional abilities through cardiovascular endurance, balance, strength, and flexibility exercises. 
  • Volunteers can gain experience in an Exercise Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy setting by volunteering with the Therapeutic Circuit, Group classes, and Seasonal Outdoor Walking. 
  • Volunteers can also gain experience in an Occupational Therapy setting by volunteering with the Upper Body Exercise classes
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Greet, interact with, and encourage clients. 
  • Assist staff and clients in the following exercise classes: 
    • Therapeutic Circuit: Volunteers may be responsible for up to two clients. They will assist the clients with seated exercises, some standing exercises, as well as helping the clients get from station to station. Volunteers will support clients to set-up for their exercise and make entries in their logbooks. Volunteers will also help clean stations between clients. 
    • Upper Body Exercise: Volunteers will assist clients with seated arm and hand exercises, provide standby assistance during standing and weight-bearing exercises, set-up and support clients with their table-top activities, clean equipment after use, as well as make entries in their logbooks. 
  • Ensure clients are exercising safely and communicate any concerns to staff. 
  • Consult with staff regarding any modifications or progressions to the exercise.
  • Assist with set-up and/or take-down program area (tables, chairs, equipment), if required 


    CORE COMPETENCIES:
    • Willingness to assist clients with physical and/or cognitive challenges to remain active. 
    • Excellent communication skills. 
    • Motivated, reliable, patient, and respectful 
    • Able to follow direction and enjoy teamwork. 
    • Experience working with seniors is an asset. 
    • Bilingual (English/French) language skills an asset
    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
    • 18 years of age and over 
    • Complete application form 
    • Complete an interview with the HR department 
    • Provide a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (valid within the last year) 
    • Complete a 2-step TB Skin Test 
    • Provide Covid-19 Vaccination receipt (minimum 2 doses) 
    • Complete weCHC orientation requirements, including Immunization and Screening Form 
    • Complete on-site training with staff 
    • Maintain volunteer hours through Charity Republic platform (access and training to be provided)
