Duties of Welcome Group volunteers might vary based on the family’s needs, some of which might include:

• Build a positive and trusting relationship with newcomer families
• Socialize and engage with the matched newcomer family to help building connections and enhance their sense of belonging in the community
• Provide interpretation support if you speak the same language of the family
•  Provide advice, insights and guidance related to the family area of interest and needs
• Escort the newcomer clients to appointments and help them to navigate the public transportation system
• Provide information and share resources based on the family needs
• Help children with schoolwork
• Navigate the heath care and other services
• Hold a casual conversation with parents/ adult family member to enhance English skills

Qualifications 

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience, well understanding of issues facing newcomers
• Availability to meet regularly with the matched family in person or virtually
• Required to provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) Police check.
