About This Opportunity

Under the supervision of the supervisor or designate, the Farmer’s Market assistant will be responsible for the setup of tables and selling of produce at the designated Farmer’s market site. The volunteer will serve customers by helping to bag purchases and tallying individual orders, making change from a cashbox supplied by the program and finally disassembling and cleaning up the market site. The market volunteer assistant must have the physical capacity to for lifting up to 30lbs and setting up lightweight tables.


Service Responsibilities:

• Report to the market site for 12:30 pm on Market Day to receive market list, set up tables

• Assist Farmer’s Market Driver to unload produce from vehicle to tables

• Repackage unsold produce, load into vehicle

• Clean up site, fold up tables if necessary

• Be familiar with emergency procedures


Current Available Shifts and Locations:

• Every 3rd Wednesday of the month, from 12:30pm to 3:30pm at 384 Mt Pleasant Rd.

• Every 4th Wednesday of the month, from 12:30pm to 3:30pm at 3179 Yonge St.

• Every 1st Thursday of the month, from 12:30pm to 3:30pm at 130 Eglinton Ave E.

• Every 2nd Thursday of the month, from 12:30pm to 3:30pm at 18 Davenport Rd

• Every 3rd Thursday of the month, from 12:30pm to 3:30pm at 801 Mt Pleasant Rd. 

Each shift occurs once a month, therefore a 6-month commitment should be considered.


Qualifications:

• Interest in community-based social service and/or food services to an older adult population.

• Satisfactory Police Records Check (we will pay for this).

• Ability to demonstrate good judgement and tact.

• Ability to bend and lift no more than 30lbs.
