Position Overview:
Sai Dham Food Bank is seeking compassionate and motivated volunteers to join our team as Community Services Assistants. This role offers meaningful, hands-on experience in supporting community members and contributing to food bank operations. Volunteers will assist with food distribution, client interaction, and community outreach initiatives while helping create a respectful and welcoming environment for all.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist with packing and organizing food items for distribution, ensuring quality and accuracy
Receive, sort, and organize food donations to maintain an efficient inventory system
Interact respectfully with clients during food distribution and provide basic support when needed
Support deliveries to community locations serving seniors, children, and individuals experiencing homelessness
Participate in food drives, donation campaigns, and outreach initiatives
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace
Assist with basic record-keeping related to inventory and distribution (as required)
Work collaboratively with staff and other volunteers to ensure smooth operations
Help create a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all clients and volunteers
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the placement, the student will:
Gain hands-on experience in community service and nonprofit operations
Develop interpersonal and communication skills
Build teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving abilities
Increase awareness of food insecurity and community support systems in Canada
Opportunity to earn community service hours
Receive a volunteer reference letter upon successful completion (subject to performance and commitment)

Open to high school students, college/university students, and community members
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Compassionate, respectful, and reliable
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Willingness to learn and take initiative
Ability to follow instructions and maintain confidentiality when required
Flexible and adaptable to changing tasks
