We are looking for volunteers who are warm, friendly and enjoy connecting with seniors. If you are interested in being matched one-on-one with a senior living in central or north Hamilton to offer friendship and support – we'd love to hear from you! 

Responsibilities: 

• Take initiative and visit the senior on a regular basis.
• Allow the senior to develop the relationship at their own pace. 
• Respect the privacy of the participants and their families. 
• Record visits and submit them to the Community Visitation Manager at the end of each month. 
• Respond to the seniors concerns with appropriate advocacy and support. 
• Report any significant issues, red flags or changes to the seniors health or stability to the Community Visitation Manager. 

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathy and listening skills. 
• Ability to decern issues
• Excellent advocacy skills. 
• Excellent ability to set appropriate boundaries. 
• Ability to work well independently and as a team. 
• Ability to consistently contact the senior, as per the initial agreement. 
• Understanding of seniors support services in Hamilton and/or willingness to learn about them. 
• Mental Health First Aid certification is an asset. 

Time commitment: The program is designed for volunteers and seniors to connect on a regular basis. Whether that is weekly in-person visits, or phone calls. Each match is designed to meet the individual needs of the senior and availability of the volunteer.
