About This Opportunity
We are looking for volunteers who are warm, friendly and enjoy connecting with seniors. If you are interested in being matched one-on-one with a senior living in central or north Hamilton to offer friendship and support – we'd love to hear from you!
Responsibilities:
- Take initiative and visit the senior on a regular basis.
- Allow the senior to develop the relationship at their own pace.
- Respect the privacy of the participants and their families.
- Record visits and submit them to the Community Visitation Manager at the end of each month.
- Respond to the seniors concerns with appropriate advocacy and support.
- Report any significant issues, red flags or changes to the seniors health or stability to the Community Visitation Manager.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including empathy and listening skills.
- Ability to decern issues
- Excellent advocacy skills.
- Excellent ability to set appropriate boundaries.
- Ability to work well independently and as a team.
- Ability to consistently contact the senior, as per the initial agreement.
- Understanding of seniors support services in Hamilton and/or willingness to learn about them.
- Mental Health First Aid certification is an asset.
Time commitment: The program is designed for volunteers and seniors to connect on a regular basis. Whether that is weekly in-person visits, or phone calls. Each match is designed to meet the individual needs of the senior and availability of the volunteer.

- Minimum 16 years old
