About This Opportunity

  • As a ReStore Donation Attendant & Customer Service Volunteer, you are often the person donors and shoppers first meet. Your friendly attitude, willingness to help, and commitment to excellent customer service help create a positive experience while supporting Habitat for Humanity Niagara's mission of building safe, affordable housing.

    Working alongside ReStore staff and fellow volunteers, you will assist with greeting customers, accepting donations, answering questions, and helping maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming shopping environment


    Responsibilities

    • Welcome customers, donors, and visitors with a friendly and professional attitude.
    • Assist donors with unloading accepted donations while following safe lifting practices.
    • Thank donors for supporting Habitat for Humanity Niagara.
    • Complete basic donation intake procedures and direct donors to the appropriate unloading area.
    • Explain donation guidelines and politely decline items that cannot be accepted, referring questions to staff when needed.
    • Provide excellent customer service by answering general questions and directing customers to products or departments.
    • Help maintain an organized, clean, and safe donation and customer service area.
    • Assist with moving, sorting, or staging donations as directed by staff.
    • Monitor the donation area for safety hazards and report concerns immediately.
    • Support staff with light housekeeping duties, including sweeping, tidying displays, and keeping entrances clear.
    • Follow all Habitat for Humanity Niagara health and safety policies and procedures.
    • Work respectfully with staff, volunteers, customers, and donors while demonstrating Habitat's Relational Core Values of Trust, Respect, Excellence, Kindness, and Teamwork.

    Qualifications

    • Friendly, approachable, and enjoys interacting with people.
    • Comfortable speaking with a diverse range of customers and donors.
    • Reliable and punctual.
    • Able to follow directions and work independently after training.
    • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
    • Willing to learn donation acceptance guidelines.
    • Previous customer service experience is an asset but not required.

    Physical Requirements

    Depending on your abilities and assigned tasks, this role may involve:

    • Standing and walking for extended periods.
    • Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.
    • Lifting and carrying items up to approximately 25 lbs independently (heavier items with team assistance or equipment).
    • Working in a warehouse and retail environment with varying temperatures.

    Reasonable accommodations will be made whenever possible to ensure volunteers can contribute safely and meaningfully.


    Time Commitment

    Shifts are flexible and scheduled based on volunteer availability and ReStore operational needs, however we recommend shifts of at least 2 hours each.
