About This Opportunity

Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans for the preservation and restoration of ecosystems within the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas. 

Ecological Assessment: Work with site managers, and review ecological assessments, and citizen science data collection to come to  the current state of ecosystems, identifying areas for preservation and restoration efforts

Collaboration: Work closely with other board members, environmentalists, and community stakeholders to foster collaborative efforts in ecosystem preservation and restoration. 

Policy Advocacy: Advocate for policies that support and enhance ecosystem preservation and restoration initiatives at local, regional, and national levels. 

Educational Outreach: Develop and implement educational programs to raise awareness about the importance of ecosystem preservation and restoration within the community. 

Grant and Fundraising: Assist in securing funding through grants, donations, and partnerships to support ecosystem preservation and restoration projects

Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish monitoring mechanisms to track the progress and impact of preservation and restoration activities, making data-driven decisions. 

Community Engagement: Engage with the local community to involve residents in hands-on restoration efforts and foster a sense of environmental stewardship. 

Project Management: Oversee and manage site managers, specific ecosystem restoration projects, ensuring they align with the organization's goals and objectives. Review environmental reports

Networking: Build and maintain relationships with relevant organizations, agencies, and experts in the field of ecosystem preservation and restoration.

Qualifications:

 Educational Background: A student working towards a degree or diploma in Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, or a related field. Advanced degrees (Masters or Ph.D.) are highly desirable. 

Professional Experience: Substantial experience (at least 5 years preferably) in the field of ecosystem preservation and restoration, with a proven track record of successful projects and initiatives. 

Knowledge of Local Ecosystems: In-depth understanding of the local ecosystems, flora, and fauna within the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas, including knowledge of native, species of concern and invasive species

 Policy and Advocacy Skills: Familiarity with environmental policies and regulations at local, regional, and national levels. Experience in advocating for policies that support ecosystem preservation and restoration. Project Management: Proven ability to oversee site managers  and manage ecosystem restoration projects from conception to completion, including budget management and evaluation

Community Engagement: Demonstrated experience in engaging and collaborating with diverse communities, stakeholders, and volunteers in environmental projects.

 Grant Writing and Fundraising: Experience in securing funding through grant writing, donation campaigns, and establishing partnerships to support ecosystem preservation and restoration initiatives.

Strategic Planning: Ability to contribute to the development and execution of strategic plans for the long-term preservation and restoration of ecosystems

Networking: Established network within the environmental sector, including relationships with relevant organizations, agencies, and experts.

Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex ecological concepts to diverse audiences. Experience in educational outreach is a plus. 

Leadership Qualities: Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to inspire and motivate a team of volunteers toward common environmental goals. 

Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills for conducting ecological assessments, interpreting data, and making informed decisions for ecosystem preservation and restoration

Passion for Conservation: A genuine passion for environmental conservation, biodiversity, and sustainable ecosystem management. 

Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing circumstances, unforeseen challenges, and evolving priorities in the dynamic field of ecosystem preservation and restoration. 

Time Commitment: Availability to dedicate sufficient time to board meetings, project planning, and other responsibilities associated with the role. 

Computer Proficiency: Proficient in the use of technology and software relevant to project management, data analysis, and communication
