About This Opportunity

As an Event/Production Assistant, you will be focused on the execution of the creative aspects of the night.

  • You will arrive earlier in the day at Christie Pits Park to help set up the puppet pickup area and set out signage for the First Aid station and the C&P Info and T-shirt Sales tent.
  • You might also help with the setup up of the Cemetery of Fears installation.
  • As volunteers begin to arrive to pick up their puppets, you can help the Puppet Masters (experienced Clay and Paper Theatre puppeteers/performers) retrieve puppets, masks, and costumes for Volunteer Puppeteers/Performers.
  • You will assist the Volunteer Puppeteers to get in and out of the puppets.
  • Event/production assistants who remain in the park during the procession may also assist in setting up the candles in the performance circle for the scenario.
  • Event/production assistants who walk in the Night of Dread procession with everyone, assist as a Puppet Spotter. This means you will be paired with a puppeteer and stick close to them, making sure they steer clear of tree limbs and any other obstacles.
  • Once you return to the park after the procession, you will either usher volunteers and audience members to fill out the circle around the performance area AND/OR assist C&P Production leads with the staging of the scenario (i.e. helping puppeteers find their entrances and exits). This will be reviewed and assigned the evening of the event.
  • Upon the scenario performance’s conclusion, you will help gather puppets and other props from volunteer performers and artists and drop them off at Puppet Central.
  • Event/Production Assistants will also need to attend ONE forty-five minute orientation session at Christie Pits Park on Wed., Oct. 18th at 6:00 pm. The rain date for the orientation will be Wed., Oct. 25th at 6:00 pm. If this is a challenge, we will try to arrange a one-on-one Zoom call with folks.

We’ll need you at Christie Pits for 3:00 PM on Sat., Oct. 28th, 2023. After the scenario, your role for the evening will have come to an end. Feel free to stick around and enjoy Night of Dread as an audience member! Thank you for your help during the pre-pageant staging and pageant performance
