Hi everyone. We are still searching for that special person or couple to open their hearts and home to Mazzy & Star. We've not had the best of luck so far and the situation is becoming urgent. Sadly, they cannot remain in the temporary placement they're in for much longer. 

 Their back story… Mazzy & Star were unceremoniously dumped on a rural property owned by a firefighter back in May 2023. Thankfully, he was able to gather them up and rush them to his local animal shelter. But they were in deplorable condition, filthy and covered in fleas and ticks. All the while, clinging ever so tightly to each other. We were very worried about their health and well-being. But their bloodwork came back with no signs of the dreaded Heartworm or Lyme Disease! Our vet also felt the girls could be younger than first guesstimated, perhaps no more than 6-8 years old! Once we got the "all clear" from our vet, we proceeded with their spay surgeries. Mazzy still needs a dental operation, but we've put that procedure on hold for the time-being as we've had setbacks with their long-term placement search, not to mention a life-threatening medical emergency after they both got into something and wound up in hospital last Fall. From what we can tell, these girls never had a proper home before. They've likely depended on themselves for their own survival and learned to escape their outdoor facilities and forage for food. Undoing all this is going to take time, patience and effort. But we have a good friend in Carl (of Carl's Canine Dog Training) who has so kindly offered to help.  All we need now is to find the perfect foster placement where Mazzy & Star can finally thrive, grow and truly know what it is to be loved. 

 Mazzy needs a gentle hand to help her come out of her shell and trust humans again. Star is full of beans and needs a close eye to keep her out of mischief. We have no idea all they've been through in their lives but it's clear there are skeletons in their closet and we need to make them disappear. Please help us to help them. They are absolutely ADORABLE! They love other dogs and although they can be a little shy with people at first, they warm up with pats and kisses! As with so many of these abandoned dogs with unknown pasts, they seem to be more fearful of men, but they do come around with love and encouragement. We know they'd do well with a gentle, patient and loving dog dad. We assume they spent a great deal of time outdoors in their past life, so they definitely need a good-sized and secure backyard to romp about. They also enjoy daily walks to satisfy their noses and tire them out. They're not terribly vocal and apparently only bark when someone comes to the door. As the founder of BIG ON BEAGLES RESCUE, if I had room for another two little beagles, I wouldn't hesitate. But I do not have room. In fact, I'm outnumbered and overwhelmed as so many dog rescue folks are these days. We truly seem to be in the midst of a Volunteer Crisis - not only for us but for many charities. It's very concerning for all of us right now.

 Our Wish List for The Twins! 

 A foster home where the humans are either retired, semi-retired, or work from home for the most part, so they can receive the focus they need and deserve. 

 A fully fenced-in property so they have somewhere to safely run and play together when they're not out for their daily leashed walks which they also love! 

 A foster home within Toronto & the GTA or Durham Region, preferrably in a quiet neighbourhood as they've come from a rural background. While they are very active, they wouldn't enjoy accompanying you to loud, busy, crowded spaces. Their idea of a perfect day would be a nice walk along a quiet street or nature trail, followed by playful romps in a securely fenced yard, followed by couch cuddle time with you! To sum it up, we're looking for kind, gentle and patient hearts to give them a beautiful life with lots of love.
