Job Description Foster Program Volunteer
Reports to: Foster Program Coordinator
Time commitment: Minimum three months
Prerequisites
- If the foster candidate rents his/her home, we need a written permission from the landlord.
- A room must be available for the foster kittens to separate them from owned pets.
- All owned cats must be spayed or neutered and fully vaccinated.
- All adult members of the household must be in agreement to foster the cat/kittens or puppies.
- The foster candidate agrees to abide by the Foster Guidelines.
- The foster candidate is able to bring the cat/kittens to medical appointments and to the adoption venues
- The foster candidate is at least 19years old.
Responsibilities
The Foster Parent will:
- Provide healthy food, shelter, sanitary litter box conditions and proper healthcare to the foster cat.
- Love and socialize the cat/kittens(s) and keep them indoors at all times.
- Handle them with care and caution as they may be unpredictable.
- Take precautionary measures such as separate housing, frequent hand washing, especially after handling the foster cat.
- Contact the Foster Coordinator if there are any concerns, e.g. health issues.
- Contact the Intake Coordinator for vaccines and other medical treatments.
- Pick up supplies at the KCP intake.
- Give at least one week notice if the cat /kittens are to be moved.
- Have interested adopters visit the foster kittens or bring kittens to a meeting location (store, intake)
- Follow the same adoption procedures as an adopter if interested in keeping the cat, kitten or puppy.
- Take pictures of the foster animal(s) and send them to the Foster Coordinator with updates.
- Complete the Socialization Assessment chart tracking the cat’s progress
- Provide weekly updates on the cat’s socialization progress to the Foster Coordinator
