About This Opportunity
Facilitate a friendly chat group, bringing encouragement, providing information and support to others who are blind or low vision on their journey. This program would happen 2 times monthly in the Kitchener/Waterloo Region.
Responsibilities & Tasks:
Tasks vary on job requirements; however, all positions will include:
• Make phone calls and send mail to invite participants to the group
• Execute group activities
• Maintain healthy group dynamics and know when to escalate issues as needed
• When a client needs more support, service, counseling or information than you can give, refer them to staff
• Track and report volunteer hours as directed Jobs include, but are not limited to, tasks such as Group Lead (Peer Support/AVL/New Horizons), Leisure Group Lead (Craft group/book club/choir group)
Qualities, Skills and Training:
• Knowledge of or willingness to learn about job specifics
• Willingness to learn and work with people with sight loss
• Patient, empathetic, friendly and excellent communication skills
• Reliable, organized and able to work with people with minimal supervision
• Conflict resolution skills an asset
• Orientation, including about CNIB, about the people we help, about sight loss, and about volunteering at CNIB
• Training specific to the position
