About This Opportunity
General WRG Volunteer Positions Descriptions :Content Creators/Writers,Graphic Desingers, Video Content Creators, SOcial Media Managers, WebDesigners and Managers, General Volunteers
*Content Creator/Writer (Remote)
● Write blog posts (500 - 1,250 words in length) on topics that are relevant to the WRG, its activities, and its mission
● Write content for the WRG’s social accounts (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn), including converting blog content into social media posts
*Graphic Designer (Remote)
● Create and revise visual content for Instagram on a weekly, ongoing basis
● Create and update event posters
● Occasionally help with designing other visual assets, such as calling cards or website design content
● Be comfortable with receiving client feedback and performing revisions to work as needed
● Attend at least one Zoom meeting every 3 months (meetings usually take approximately 1.5 hours)
● Where needed, provide feedback on how we can improve our digital and print content
*Video Content Creator (Remote / In-person)
● Serve as one of the faces of the WRG by creating relevant, brand-appropriate video content for Instagram (e.g., reels and stories) and, potentially, other social media sites
● Content created may include instructional videos, responses to common questions, updates, summaries of events, event promo videos, etc.
*Social Media Manager (Remote)
● Manage the group’s Instagram, Facebook, and/or LinkedIn account
● Post content based on an agreed upon schedule, leveraging automatic posting software
● Spend 20 mins/day interacting with followers and relevant content
● Respond to all comments and messages within a timely manner (within 1 business day)
*Web Designer & Manager (Remote)
● Monitor the WRG website to identify areas for improvement
● Provide recommendations to the WRG that keep in mind the limitations of Weebly, the web builder/hosting platform used by the group 1
● Execute approved changes in Weebly and make further revisions as needed
● Update the website with current event info, relevant updates, statistics, etc.
*General Volunteer (Remote / In-person)
● Participate in the WRG’s virtual Zoom meetings, which typically take place once per month (potentially twice per month leading up to REmarket)
● Provide feedback on group plans, proposals, initiatives, etc.
● Take on one-off tasks (e.g., contacting potential partners or conducting research) and/or lead initiatives as able to
● When interested, help plan and/or participate in in-person events such as the City of Toronto’s Environment Day, Cleanup Day with our local BIA, the City of Toronto's 3Rs Ambassador Volunteer Program, World Cleanup Day, and the St Lawrence Market’s Community Harvest Festival
* Qualifications
● In general, formal education or training is not a requirement for volunteering with the WRG.
● However, applicants are expected to have experience and skills relevant to the position(s) to which they are applying and to be able to effectively perform all related duties.
● Graphic designers must be familiar with and have access to Google Docs/Drive, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and AdobeExpress.
● All applicants must be able to speak and read English effectively enough to participate in group meetings and carry out their volunteer duties.
● Applicants who are applying for content writing and social media management positions must have native-level English skills.
* Time Commitment:
● The WRG strives to provide volunteer opportunities with flexible time commitments.
● In general, volunteers with year-round positions are able to decide for themselves how many hours they would like to dedicate to their volunteer duties per week. Typically, our volunteers dedicate 1 to 3 hours of their time to the WRG per week.
● Marketing team volunteers (content writers, graphic designers, social media managers, etc.) must commit to a minimum of 12 months of volunteer work with our group, as this is necessary to ensure that our marketing strategies are executed effectively and consistently.

● If you join our team in an ongoing position, you will receive a volunteer bio on our website and social media channels and public recognition for your work (if desired).
● Content creators and graphic designers receive credit for each post (if desired).
● Upon request, we will provide you with a letter of reference based on your time with us.
● Depending on which volunteer position you take on, you could end up with professional content for your portfolio or reel, and/or enhance your resume and LinkedIn profile.
● Volunteering with us is a great way to engage in social and professional networking. We’ve had team members form new friendships, establish new business connections, and achieve professional growth through working with us.
● REmarket volunteers will receive a free lunch (please inform us in advance of any dietary restrictions so that we can accommodate).
● By working with the WRG, you’ll also gain the knowledge that you’re helping to save the Earth and give back to our local communities.
