About This Opportunity

The Friends of the Saskatoon Afforestation Areas non profit environmental charity is seeking a skilled and motivated Computer Systems Technologist to volunteer for an exciting project involving the update and enhancement of our GPS AZURE smartphone app. The app is currently linked to Google Satellite maps and had previously been working but requires an update for the deprecated programming language code to accommodate the front end addition of interpretive stories at specific latitude and longitude coordinates. This update will allow smartphone users to access educational interpretive content relevant to their location, enhancing their exploration experience of the two Saskatoon Afforestation Areas.

Responsibilities: Update deprecated language code in the GPS AZURE smartphone app to ensure compatibility with current systems.

Modify the Manager panel front end to connect seamlessly with back end programming, facilitating the addition of interpretive stories and GPS latitude and longitude. Collaborate with the environmental charity to implement new features and functionalities based on project requirements. Conduct testing and debugging to ensure the app functions smoothly across different mobile devices. Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance as needed.

Skills Needed: Proficiency in computer systems technology and software development. Experience with programming languages for mobile app development. Familiarity with GPS technology and location-based services. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a virtual environment. Excellent communication skills to convey technical concepts effectively.

Benefits: Gain valuable experience in app development and GPS technology. Make a meaningful impact by contributing to an educational and exploration-focused project. Enhance your programming skills and expand your portfolio. Collaborate with a passionate team dedicated to innovation and improvement. Flexible schedule and remote/virtual work option.  Capacity for the charity / candidate to apply for grants to facilitate this endeavour

How to Apply: Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their resume and a brief cover letter outlining their relevant experience and interest in the position to friendsafforestation@gmail.com Please include "GPS AZURE Smartphone App Developer Volunteer" in the subject line of your email.
