About This Opportunity

Gutsy Walk is Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s signature national fundraising event, celebrated on the first Sunday of June each year. Thousands of people across Canada come together on one day to raise money to advance medical research and improve the lives of Canadians who are affected by these diseases. 

This role involves in-person interactions. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Adhere to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada policies and procedures, including the Volunteer Code of Conduct
  • Lead and support the Gutsy Walk Committee to drive event participation and fundraising growth
  • Maintain regular communicate with staff partner to identify challenges, successes, and walk growth opportunities
  • Support staff partner to manage event budget, track and maintain expenses
  • Collaborate with staff partner to set agendas for walk committee meetings
  • Lead committee meetings as well as post-event wrap up
  • Establish key timelines, monitoring progress to ensure all milestones are achieved on schedule
  • Network with other Gutsy Walk Chairs across Canada to share ideas and celebrate successes
  • Participate in national webinar trainings to become familiar with tools and processes
  • Act as a role model by registering for Gutsy Walk and supporting fundraising, directly or indirectly (e.g. sharing ideas, promoting the event, or fundraising)
  • Attend the Gutsy Walk and oversee event success as a volunteer leader
  • Ensure adherence to the Gutsy Walk Event Standards

Time Commitment: 

  • Approximately 8-12 hours a month including monthly committee meetings, with additional meetings leading up to event day and a post-event wrap-up meeting
  • Some evening and weekend activity is required to support committee members with their roles
  • Some daytime availability is ideal for making phone calls and responding to emails

What you bring: 

  • Experience with leading a team, fundraising, event planning Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to organization and collaboration
  • Flexible, open and adaptable leadership style
  • Outgoing, friendly manner with a focus on relationship building and follow through
  • Willingness to learn more about Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis Proficiency with email, web browsers, and video calling applications (e.g. Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
  • Comfort with communicating with Gutsy Walk stakeholders through email, phone, and video calls
