Position: Head Coach - Cross-Country Skiing 

Location: Burnaby 

Role Overview: As the Head Coach for Cross-Country Skiing at Special Olympics BC - Burnaby, you will lead our cross-country skiing program, providing athletes with expert training and guidance. Your role is crucial in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where athletes with intellectual disabilities can excel and enjoy the sport. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Program Development: Design and deliver engaging cross-country skiing training programs that cater to various skill levels. Ensure sessions are well-structured, challenging, and enjoyable. 

Coaching: Conduct regular practice sessions, offering technical instruction, motivation, and feedback to help athletes improve their skiing skills and overall fitness. 

Athlete Support: Track athletes' progress, set individualized goals, and provide tailored support to enhance their performance and confidence. 

Event Management: Oversee participation in local and regional competitions. Prepare athletes for events, ensuring they are well-trained and confident. 

Team Collaboration: Work closely with other coaches, volunteers, and staff to ensure a cohesive approach to training and competitions. Promote teamwork and positive communication. 

Community Engagement: Build strong connections with athletes, families, and the community. Actively promote the program to recruit new participants and increase community involvement. 

Qualifications: 

  • Experience in coaching cross-country skiing, ideally with athletes of varying abilities. 
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to inspire and support athletes. 
  • Commitment to creating an inclusive and positive environment for all participants. 
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse team and engage with the community. 
  • Coaching certification (e.g., NCCP) is an asset but not required before applying for this role. If selected, we will provide opportunities to obtain NCCP certification.
