About This Opportunity
HHHS is looking for compassionate volunteers who would like to help with our Hospice program both in the community ( Haliburton Highlands) and in the Palliative Care unit at the Haliburton Hospital..
As a Hospice volunteer, the most important gift you bring is yourself…just being there with the client to listen to concerns, fears and feelings, sharing precious time.
You will also provide practical support to clients and respite to caregivers. For someone facing the end of their life it can be “so reassuring to have the guidance and support of someone who will truly listen and help you face the uncomfortableness with more dignity and grace; to treat you as a real person and listen to your hopes and fears”.
Hospice Volunteers often report that the reward for showing up for those who need the support is to experience it as a “humbling and deeply inspiring privilege” and “an incredibly powerful and moving gift of life.”
Our Hospice program offers volunteers extensive training, on-going support and supervision.
A comprehensive online course from HPCO (Hospice Palliative Care Ontario) is available to all of our Hospice volunteers.
