About This Opportunity
Weekly meetings at school help improve children’s confidence & self-esteem, promoting friendship and educational engagement. For one hour a week, mentors meet with their mentee and engage in activities such as board games, crafts or just hang out on school grounds.
Children who can benefit the most from mentoring relationships are identified by teachers and guidance counsellors. BBBS mentees are children who face adversity and need more developmental relationships in their lives. Like all BBBS mentees, they come from a variety of backgrounds and have vast differences in life experiences, but the thing that unites them all the fact that they can benefit from an additional positive supporter and champion in their lives, helping them reach their potential and appreciate all that they have to offer and celebrate their authentic selves.
The In-School Mentoring program runs for the duration of the school year (September-June) and requires a consistent one-hour, once a week commitment. Matches do not meet over the summer break or during school holidays.
Successful mentoring is a series of small steps, teachable moments, quick smiles, flashes of fun – all of which are foundations for a match that will make a big difference for the young person and for you. Share experiences that will enable you both to learn and grow and HAVE FUN TOGETHER!
