About This Opportunity

Become a Mentor and ignite the power and potential of a young person. BBBSCSI serves elementary school students in Kamloops, Kelowna, Cranbrook, and surrounding areas.

Our mission is to enable life changing Mentoring relationships to ignite the power and potential of young people, and our vision is for all young people to realize their full potential. As a Mentor, you will share with your Mentee, the BBBSCSI Agency, parents or caregivers, and school staff, a commitment to fostering a safe, enjoyable, meaningful, and healthy Mentoring relationship.

Mentors will be matched with a Mentees in Grades 1 to 8. Matches will spend 1 hour a week together at the same time and on the same day. The Mentor and Mentee will play board games, do crafts, or just hanging out.

For the first few weeks of the match, BBBSCSI provides structured activities to support the Mentor and Mentee as they get to know one another. The structured activities guide matches to intentionally build a Developmental Relationship together. A Developmental Relationship builds upon a framework of expressing care, challenging growth, providing support, sharing power and expanding possibilities.

For Teen Mentors, mentoring helps teens to grow as people, connect with others, and give back to their community while earning volunteer hours towards high school graduation, post-secondary education, and employment opportunities.

Mentors will:
- Successfully complete each phase of the application process
- Participate in Pre-Match Training
- Speak regularly with program staff and the partnering school throughout the match
- Be a friend to their Mentee

- Be a positive role model, emphasizing values such as trust, respect, reliability, honesty, fairness, commitment, resilience, and kindness
- Place primary importance upon the protection and well-being of children and youth
- Be supervised and supported by, and remain accountable to, program staff
- Function within the guidelines and support the mission of BBBSCSI

Qualifications and Requirements:

- Have the ability to relate to young people and adults
- Have the ability to adapt to change
- Be reliable, honest, trustworthy, and fun to hang out with

BBBSCSI is committed to the values of diversity and inclusion.
