About This Opportunity
We are looking for compassionate and patient volunteers to help with our Literacy Basic Skills program at Durham Deaf Services. This role involves working directly with our learners to help improve their literacy and basic skills. As an LBS volunteer, you will play a vital role in empowering our learners to achieve their educational goals.
Qualifications:
● Must be 18 years or older.
● Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
● Strong communication skills and patience.
● Experience in education or tutoring is an asset but not required.
● A genuine passion for helping others and making a positive impact in the community.
To help us maintain a safe and welcoming environment, we ask that all volunteers complete a police check. This check reviews your criminal record to ensure there are no disqualifying offences. The process is handled by your local police department or an authorized agency.
Please be aware that there is a fee for this service, which you’ll need to pay upfront. Don’t forget to keep the receipt, as we’ll reimburse you for this cost.
Please submit your police check application as soon as you can, giving ample time for processing.
