About This Opportunity

Hours: 15 to 30 hours/week 

 Volunteer Start Date: January 8th, 2024 

 Volunteer End Date: April 19th, 2024

Please note: You will need to have all the necessary equipment and internet to facilitate working remotely. If required, a DMRF Canada computer can be provided. There is also some flexibility regarding the number of hours per week and the length of the work term. The mission of the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation (DMRF) Canada is to advance research for more treatments and ultimately a cure; to promote awareness and education; and to support the needs and well being of affected individuals and families. DMRF Canada is a registered non-profit Canadian charity governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. DMRF Canada works in partnership with the Dystonia Medical Research Foundation in the United States to ensure funding of the best and most relevant dystonia medical research worldwide and partners with the other like-minded research organizations to fund excellent dystonia research in Canada.

Key Responsibilities: 

Social media and Communications:

  • Create, draft, and edit letters and communications (mailed letters, newsletters, and electronic communications). 
  • Work to increase the awareness of dystonia and DMRF Canada online, by enhancing digital and social media channels, including the enhancement of DMRF Canada YouTube Channel, Facebook, Twitter, and online via the leveraging of a Google Grant.
  • Post updates and promote news articles via social media channels using Hootsuite. 

Website Management: 

  • Responsible for managing the website in English and French. 
  • Creating content on website for associated program support, research, advocacy.

Event/Campaign Planning: 

  •  Assist with the development of a promotional and marketing plan for education and awareness events. 
  • Development of promotional and marketing materials. 
  • Preparing sponsorships and proposals. 
  • Communicate with related parties, vendors and groups for planning and execution of events and campaigns.

Administrative: 

  • Utilize high degree of creativity in the development and design of marketing and promotional material including PowerPoint presentations, flyers/brochures, and other material. 
  • Other mailing and administrative duties as assigned.

Other Information

 This job provides an opportunity for a diverse learning environment, including: 

  •  Obtaining first-hand knowledge of the inner workings of a Non-Profit Organization 
  • Collaborate with support group volunteers across Canada 
  • Gain some knowledge on medical research on dystonia, a neurological movement disorder 
  • Manage projects effectively and efficiently with weekly status meetings and project management tools 
  • Website content management including updating content and images 
  • Digital marketing including Social media, E-mail and database segmentation

Digital skills will be enhanced through the use of various systems and software such as:

  • Integrated CRM – E-Tapestry (Used mostly for charitable organizations)
  • Microsoft Office – Includes Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, Forms, Word and Excel 
  • Marketing and digital media platforms like Google AdWords, and Hootsuite 
  • Task/project management software

Job Requirements

Skills & Qualifications Required

  • Experience with and strong working knowledge of computer-based systems. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite 
  • Good interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Able to be diplomatic while ensuring policies and the intent of guidelines are applied 
  • Able to complete work and respond to requests and queries in a timely manner 
  • Enjoy working as part of a team 
  • Enjoy the challenge of performing disparate tasks simultaneously 
  • Self-motivated and proactive 
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times 
  • Basic French knowledge is nice to have

The signing of a privacy & confidentiality agreement is required.
