The Region of Peel serves almost 1.5 million residents in Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon. We deliver a wide range of resident-focused services across the Region. Together with the health system and our community partners, we are continuing to roll-out the COVID-19 vaccine and Routine School Immunizations (RSI) to Peel residents.
Volunteers provide valuable support to the Region of Peel in the delivery of our immunization services. Volunteers help augment the health system's capacity, while gaining valuable skills and personal development in the process. The Region of Peel takes great pride in the efforts of all volunteers for their commitment to provide this valuable, essential support.
This is an onsite unpaid vaccination clinic volunteer position with the Region of Peel.

Objective:
- To support the Regional staff with the delivery of Routine School Immunizations and COVID-19 vaccines at community clinics throughout Peel.
- To reduce harm, protect health system capacity and minimize the impacts of vaccine preventable diseases on the community.

- Welcome/greet clients and monitor line-ups to maintain physical distancing as they enter and exit the clinic.
- Engage with child(ren) and parents as they wait in line.
- Support with set up/take down and moving/handing out clinic supplies, materials following safety protocols if needed.
- Confirm clients’ appointments and that clients meet clinic eligibility criteria only if directed to do so.
- Complete the COVID-19 screening questions with clients if directed to do so.
- Refer clients who fail the screening protocol or have questions to the clinic supervisor.
- Ensure clients clean their hands with alcohol-based hand rub. Provide a mask to clients who wish to wear one.
- Determine whether the client has any accessibility needs (e.g., mobility issues, sight or hearing impaired, need for a translator), assist if safe to do so.
- Assist clients with strollers.
- Direct clients to the registration area for RSI vaccinations or the immunization line for the COVID vaccination.
- Facilitate crowd control and clinic flow.
- Wipe down frequently touched surfaces if instructed to do so.
- Ensure that signage is in place and visible.
- Help create a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
- Fulfill other assigned duties that may be requested from you by Clinic Supervisor.
Volunteer Expectations:
- Complete self assessment tool before your volunteer shift.
- Maintain confidentiality within parameters defined by Health Services, Volunteer Resources.
- Adhere to the latest Peel Public Health recommendations and guidelines as well as follow specific health and safety procedures as outlined in your training materials.
- Read and review all training materials provided.
- Promptly report incidences, accidents or concerns to the Clinic Lead.
- The volunteer must not provide medical/counselling advice to clients.
- If concerns or complex needs arise, volunteers should escalate these to the Clinic Lead.
- Conduct self in professional manner at all times.
- Log volunteer hours on the online volunteer database, detailed instructions will be provided (where applicable).
- A minimum of 1 shift per week is preferred.
- 4-hour shifts, various shifts available, 7 days a week depending on clinic schedule.
- Clinics are throughout Peel.
- Volunteers are required to organize their own transportation.
- General orientation to the Region of Peel, Health Services Volunteer program.
- Self study training manual.
- Task-specific onsite orientation by Clinic Staff.
- 4 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
