About This Opportunity

THE OPPORTUNITY

Elder Help Peel is seeking passionate, innovative and knowledgeable volunteer Directors, with a range of skills and/or experience to complement our current Board who have demonstrated senior or executive level achievement in the public sector or nonprofits organizations.

We are currently seeking candidates with governance experience and with the following areas of identity or expertise: 

  • Community health care / health sector experience
  • Legal
  • Accounting/Finance
  • Fundraising/Sponsorship
  • Marketing and Communications
  • Outreach and Community Development
  • Immigration and Newcomer Partnerships
  • Representatives from diverse/ethnic communities

Director Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic governance to the organization, ensuring that the mission, vision, and values are upheld. Attend all Board meetings and participate independently and knowledgeably in all deliberations of the Board. Stay informed about committee matters, prepare well for meetings, review and comment on minutes and reports. 
  • Contribute to the development of policies to guide the organization towards its strategic goals.
  • Operate with integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of lonely and socially isolated seniors. Approve the annual budget, audit reports, and review monthly activities as presented in the monthly financial reports.
  • Develop collegial working relationships with other Directors and committee members that contribute to productive and effective meetings and outcomes. 
  • Review strategy and contribute to annual operating plans through constructive inputs. Cultivate relationships with our corporate and community partners.
  • Participate in Elder Help Peel fundraising, annual AGM  and other relevant special events during some weekends.

Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Professional, executive or leadership experience and accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. 
  • Fluent in English Language required, plus other languages, an asset 
  • Excellent oral, written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
