Society of Sharing: Inner-City Volunteers is a charitable non-profit organization founded in 1981, dedicated to reducing social isolation and promoting social connection among isolated seniors. We offer various programs designed to improve the well-being of housebound clients, and we rely on our team of volunteers to provide companionship and support. Join our team and make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

We’re Seeking: We are actively looking for passionate and driven individuals to join our Board of Directors. If you are eager to share your expertise and unique skills and have knowledge and/or skills in one or more of the following areas, we would love to hear from you:
• Legal
• Fundraising
• Finance/Accounting
• HR
Key Responsibilities
1. Uphold Organization Values: Support and promote the organization's values, vision, and mission.
2. Governance and Planning: Govern the agency through policy formulation and strategic planning in collaboration with the Executive Director.
3. Fundraising Support: Back fundraising events and campaigns that strategically contribute to the organization's sustainable growth and fulfillment of its overarching mission and objectives.
4. Executive Director Oversight: Evaluate the Executive Director's performance and participate in the hiring process.
5. Meeting Preparation: Prepare for meetings by reviewing relevant materials and actively engaging in discussions.
6. Financial Oversight: Approve budgets, audits, and financial reports to ensure transparency and compliance.
7. Strategic Planning: Develop and oversee the implementation of the agency's strategic plan, ensuring that the organization is continually progressing toward its long-term goals and objectives.
8. Stay Informed: Keep abreast of community issues relevant to the organization's mission and objectives. Time Commitment • Board Members are required to attend ten Board meetings a year. • Each Board Member should be available to serve on at least one Board Committee. • Attend other meetings as required and needed (ex. AGM, volunteer appreciation, Annual Retreat, etc.)

Qualifications
• Previous involvement with not-for-profit boards or experience in organizational governance is highly beneficial.
• Proven commitment to the organization's mission and values, with a demonstrated passion for supporting the community and making a positive impact.
• Demonstrated professional expertise in fields such as law, fundraising, or accounting within the business, government, or non-profit sectors.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to foster positive interpersonal relationships. • Willingness to express viewpoints, actively participate in constructive dialogues, and engage in decision-making processes while maintaining respect for others.
• Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to analyze complex issues and contribute to the development of effective solutions and initiatives.
• Flexibility and adaptability to navigate various challenges and changes in the non-profit sector, demonstrating resilience and a willingness to embrace new approaches and ideas.
