About This Opportunity

The basic premise of this program is that Harbourfront Centre's volunteer department connects experienced professionals with new Canadians in the Canada Connects program in partnership with CultureLink, a settlement and community services organization.

Together they attend a Meet & Greet at CultureLink, an in-person orientation and tour of Harbourfront Centre and then volunteer together as a circle on our site. In addition, the circles commit to meeting once a week to engage in English conversation, exploring different topics based on the needs and interests of the group. CultureLink’s staff will answer any questions pertaining their settlement and Harbourfront Centre’s volunteer department will respond to any volunteer engagement related inquiries. Commitments include:

  1. Mentors participate in an online interview with Hashem Rahin, Program Worker at CultureLink and Saskia Rinkoff, Manager, Volunteer Engagement at Harbourfront Centre
  2. Total hours – 35 hours between March 1 and October 1 (including weekly meetings and orientation/trainings)
  3. Mentors must complete free police check.
  4. Online Mentor meeting and training on March 20 from 6:30pm to 8pm
  5. Attend Meet & Greet at CultureLink on March 23 from 10am to 3pm (includes light breakfast and lunch)
  6. In-person orientation and tour at Harbourfront Centre on April 27 from 10am to 1pm
