About This Opportunity
Who are we?
Business in the Streets (BITS) is a Canadian charity that helps young people create their own jobs. Through our signature 8-week business programs we offer business training, mentorship and funding to help young entrepreneurs who otherwise might struggle to find the knowledge, tools and support they need to start or grow their business.
Who are you?
Whether you’ve started your own business or are working in someone else’s — you understand the value of your experience and are eager to draw on your experience to support people in your community.
You understand that mentorship is less about having all the answers and is more about sharing your perspective, helping others avoid the same problems you've faced or offering guidance that might help someone save time or unnecessary headaches down the line.
Location
Fully remote based in Ontario, Canada
Responsibilities
- Provide a safe and inclusive space where mentees feel encouraged to explore new ideas
- Follow up with your mentee and keeping them accountable, always through the lens of empathy first
- Share advice and work experiences that you believe will support your mentee’s development as an entrepreneur
- Support your mentee during live Saturday Zoom sessions for the duration of the program
Note: You won't need to create or provide any teaching material; our programs are taught by facilitators. Instead of teaching, our mentors act as accountability partners for program participants. Successful applicants will be assigned 2 to 3 mentees who they’ll support by bouncing around ideas, sharing advice, honest feedback, accountability and encouragement throughout the program. Mentees will come from a variety of backgrounds and may be BIPOC, LGBTQ, low-income or folks from other underserved communities.
