About This Opportunity

Are you looking to develop your environmental leadership skills?
Are you curious about environmental education and working with youth?
Then the Peer Mentors program is for you!

Peer Mentors work alongside experienced EYA staff to run our land-based education programs for high school-aged youth in Strathcona Community Gardens. You bring your experience and passion and we provide skill-building workshops, one-on-one mentorship with an EYA educator, and opportunities to practice facilitation and group leadership. 

Dates: February 10th - May 9th 

Peer Mentor Stream (2 spots available): 

  • Training Weekend: February 10 & 11
  • Peer Mentoring: Weekly program support 1 day/week from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, plus an additional 2 school field trips (dates vary & you can sign up according to your availability). 
  • A living stipend of up to $200 is provided for this stream.

Skill-building Stream (6 spots available): 

  • Includes Training Weekend and Peer Mentoring components above, plus Skill-building workshops. 
  • This exciting program involves 120 hours of practical experience working with young people 
  • Skill-building workshops: Weekly Wednesday evening sessions starting February 14 (5:00 - 7:30 pm) 
  • A living stipend of up to $400 is provided for this stream. 


This program is open to youth ages 18-25, with exceptions on a case-by-case basis. At EYA, we lift diversity in both humans and non-humans alike! We encourage and prioritize applications from individuals who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour), LGBTQ2S+, and those facing other barriers.

Lunch on peer mentoring day is provided and bus tickets are available. A living stipend is provided and they vary upon the different program stream (max $200 and $400). This will be sent upon program completion via e-transfer.
