About This Opportunity
We are specifically looking for people who have had a spouse or partner who has chosen MAID.
The peer support role involves providing virtual support (phone, email, text) to people from anywhere in Canada. The focus of the role is a listening ear and a connection with someone who has been through this difficult experience. There are no minimum hour requirements.
Peer support in the context of Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) offers a unique source of empathy and understanding for individuals who are often navigating a deeply personal and isolating experience. When someone is supporting a loved one considering or planning for MAID, or grieving a loss due to MAID, they may encounter complex emotions like guilt, sorrow, relief, or confusion. Society’s discomfort with the topic can lead to feelings of isolation, as others may not fully understand or be open to discussing the journey. Peer support provides a non-judgmental, compassionate space where people can freely share their emotions and experiences. This connection with someone who has a shared experience can make the path less lonely and offer validation for feelings that may otherwise be hard to express openly.
