About This Opportunity
The Communications Program Facilitator Volunteer helps clients in a group setting, by learning and applying supportive communication techniques. With guidance and support from Speech-Language Pathologists and Communicative Disorders Assistants, the volunteer provides clients with opportunities to engage in conversation and increase life participation.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
-Assist staff and clients during client arrival/departure, program set-up/clean-up and breaks
-Use a variety of supportive communication strategies to encourage client participation
-Participate in program pre and post meetings with staff and volunteers
-Prepare and/or bring in materials and resources for the communication groups
-Report any absences to staff in a timely manner
-Record and report weekly volunteer hours
-Adhere to all MODC policies, procedures and guidelines
Current Location Openings: Peterborough - Thursdays 1:30 - 4:00 PM
Length of Term: Ongoing, minimum 6 months commitment
Time Commitment: 3 hours per week
Qualifications and Experience:
-Must be 18 years of age or older
-Able to take initiative
-Able to take verbal and/or written direction and follow through to complete assigned tasks
-Able to travel to a program site on the same day and time every week
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills
-Reliable, collaborative, empathetic and patient
-Prior volunteer experience an asset
