    Public Representative

The Regulated Health Professions Network is inviting applications from the public to serve as public representatives on regulatory committees.

    Role Details

The Nova Scotia Regulated Health Professions Network (the Network) is inviting applications from the public to serve as public representatives on regulatory bodies' statutory committees.

The Network aims to facilitate collaboration among regulated health professions to protect the public interest through enhanced regulation. The Network’s membership includes representatives from the 22 regulated health professions in Nova Scotia. The Network is establishing a pool of public representatives for appointment to health regulatory bodies’ statutory committees.

Volunteer public representatives play a crucial role in ensuring accountability, transparency, and representation of public interests within regulating health professional practices. Public representatives participate in committee meetings that address registration decisions and health care professionals’ conduct. Public representatives provide feedback from the general public's perspective to ensure that public concerns are heard and considered in health professional regulatory processes.

    The public representative:

    • Completes initial and ongoing training. Initial training consists of online, self-directed training modules. Ongoing training may be online or in-person.

    • Reads documentation prior to committee meetings.

    • Provides the public perspective during discussions and while making decisions at committee meetings.

    • Maintains confidentiality of information as a result of participating in a regulatory process.

     • Participates for the duration of the term of the appointment (2-3 years).

    Skills and Qualifications

    The public representative has:

    • a commitment to engage with the role

    • the ability to analyze information and reason

    • integrity

    • collaboration skills

    • a commitment to foster inclusivity

    • objectivity

    • the ability to communicate effectively

Online, self-paced modules will be provided to support public representatives for their committee appointment. Additional training will be provided by the regulatory body where the public representative is appointed.

Volunteers will be referred to a regulatory body's committee.  Meetings may be in-person or virtual.  This recruitment is ongoing.  Therefore there is not a deadline for applications.  Click HERE to view the posting.

    A resume is not required.
