About This Opportunity

Volunteers will work closely with Recreation Staff and assist with various recreation programs. Programs may include but are not limited to: Bingo, Bowling, Trivia, Sing-along, Horticulture and Outings. Programs run throughout the day, evenings, and on weekends.

Responsibilities

-Assist with preparation and implementation of activities

-Porter residents to and from activities 

-Provide a fun and engaging atmosphere during the activity

-Assist with the clean up and evaluation following the activity

Requirements

-Excellent verbal communication skills

-Comfortable interacting with seniors

-Patient, kind and positive

-Enjoy being part of a team and working effectively with others

-Dependable, empathetic, flexible, enthusiastic and patient

Orientation & Training

-Facility tour and basic orientation will be provided for every volunteer

-Role-specific training will occur on your first day of volunteering with us

-Ongoing on-the-job training will be provided as necessary

Joining us 

• Fill out the Volunteer Application Form 

• Attend a brief interview with the Volunteer Coordinator 

• Apply for a vulnerable sector check from your local police station if you are 18 years of age or older – submit it to the Volunteer Coordinator when complete 

• Obtain a 2-step TB skin test (from the Public Health Unit or your family doctor) 

• Have 2 COVID vaccines as well as the annual flu shot 

• Complete mandatory online training 

• Attend orientation 

• Start volunteering!
