About This Opportunity
Volunteers in this program become circle leaders guiding the circle process in which a youth or young adult and their support people such as family, case workers, social workers or guardians participate.
The youth or young adult referred to EYJC must accept responsibility for their actions, participate in the circle and complete the agreed upon sanctions for repairing the harm that has resulted from their actions. This is an alternative to going through the Court system and provides the youth or young adult to acknowledge the impacts their actions have had in causing harm to someone. Whenever possible we will have the person who has been harmed participate in the circle.
The volunteers take on the role of circle facilitator and follow up volunteer. If a harmed person is present a support volunteer is assigned to them and attends the circle with them. The follow up volunteer connects with the youth or young adult to provide support in helping the youth or young adult successfully complete the sanctions.
Currently our north office location runs its circles on Wednesday evenings and volunteers interested in this location must be available to be scheduled for Wednesday evenings.
Our south office location runs circles on Tuesdays. Volunteers interested in this location must be available to be scheduled on Tuesday evenings.
Orientation and training for this position takes approximately three months.
Circles are facilitated by volunteers. Volunteers must be willing to make a solid commitment to have availability on the designated days as circles cannot be held without the volunteers active participation.
