About This Opportunity
Variety Village offers a broad range of integrated full-day camps for participants of all abilities, ages 4 to 20+. Volunteers will help assist in various sports and adapted activities, unique games based with various age levels. Volunteers will help assist campers to have opportunities to develop sport, swimming and gross motor skills in a non- competitive and fun environment. , peer interaction and developing self confidence.
Primary responsibilities or tasks:
• Following the directions and provide support to the Variety Village program staff in developing the skills of the participants
• Assist staff in organizing activities and support participants of all abilities.
• Ensuring participants have a safe and enjoyable experience
• Assisting with the set up and the take down activities
• Assisting in organizing participants and supporting participants during activities
• Comfortable with giving one on one help to participants if need
• Ensure the safety of our participants, by ensuring each child is always accounted for (for ex. taking headcount)
• Providing your suggestion and ideas for new games or activities that could be incorporated into camps
Desired Qualifications (Experience, skills, and Competencies):
• Mature and responsible attitude to work and experience being in a team setting
• NLS, SFA, CPR will be considered an asset
• Experience or keen interest in working with people with varying abilities
• Sports and recreation background an asset
• Enthusiastic and willing to work as part of a team
• A willingness to learn and take initiative
• Able to take directions and have a strong follow through
• Be flexible, patient and supportive
• Reliable and dependable
• Able to represent Variety Village in a positive and professional manner at all times with staff, participants, members and parents
Additional Volunteer Requirements:
• Volunteer are required to wear gym attire, shorts, sweat pants, comfortable pants and running shoes
• Volunteer is required to adhere to Variety’s volunteer policies and procedures and sign Variety’s Confidentiality Policy, Waiver, and all other related policies and administrative forms
• A Police Reference Check is required prior to starting the Volunteer placement
• Volunteer is required to log their Volunteer hours every visit in the Volunteer binder in the front.
• Volunteer must perform their duties in a safe manner at all times
• Volunteer must read and understand all volunteer materials and policies and sign and sign to indicate that they haves read and understand all the information. If the Volunteer does not understand the material, they will be given clarification.

Training will be provided on-site.
We ask that all applicants commit to at least 2 out of 8 weeks as listed below:
- July 2-5 (short week due to holiday)
- July 8-12
- July 15-19
- July 22-26
- July 29- August 2
- August 6-9 (short week due to holiday)
- August 12-16
- August 19-23
