About this opportunity:
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our Summer Camp program as Volunteer Counselors. As a volunteer, you will work alongside paid staff members to provide a fun and safe environment for campers.
Key responsibilities are as follows:
- Assist camp counselors in leading group activities and team-building exercises
- Ensure campers are safe and supervised at all times
- Communicate effectively with campers, parents (occasionally), and other staff members Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required
- Help manage disciplinary issues and conflicts that may arise
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of the campsite
- Support paid counselors with snack and meal preparation
- Provide First Aid or CPR when necessary
- Ensure compliance with all camp policies and procedures
- Assist with campers during group sessions and explaining new contents
- Other duties as assigned by the camp director or counselors or other staff members
Note: Volunteer counselors will have a supporting role and will not be held accountable for the entire group as a whole, while camp counselors will have leadership roles and will be held accountable for the overall success of the camp program.
A great candidate for this position will possess the following:
- Must be 14 or above years of age
- Bilingual (for French camps) is an asset (Not Necessary)
- CPRC + AED certification is an asset (Not Necessary)
- At least 3-month of experience working with children
- Ability to work well with children and parents
- Ability to communicate well with parents, staff, and children
- Ability to motivate children towards learning new skills
- Ability to collaborate with others
- Ability to demonstrate responsible, ethical, and professional conduct - YOU are the role model
- Ability to provide support and instruction to campers and co-workers
As a not-for-profit charitable organization, volunteer hours at YRES can be contributed to the 40-hour OSSD requirement.
