About This Opportunity
Circles of Support and Accountability is a program under the Mennonite Central Committee of Alberta. We work specifically with previously incarcerated individuals who have sex offence charges. We operate out of Calgary and Edmonton. Social isolation and a lack of positive supports are two of the main factors in sexual reoffending. By pairing 3-4 volunteers from the community with a 'core member' (previous offender) to create a temporary 'landing pad' community, we create safety by giving the core member a sense of community and allowing them a space to succeed by talking about their goals, their past, and holding them accountable for their actions, both past and present. When core members feel like they can be part of the community, they invest in creating a safer community as well.
