About This Opportunity

Role Objective:

To help adults improve their literacy and essential skills (reading, writing, numeracy, computer use) in a one-to-one or small group setting.

Utilize specialized skill set to assist learners with training for a specific field of study.

 Training: Training requirements include a two-hour orientation, a 12-hour tutor workshop (required at the discretion of the Program Coordinator), and upgrading workshops as applicable. Alternate training options are available online. The Program Coordinator will assign appropriate training.

Time Requirements: Commitment will vary based on the needs of the learner. A minimum of one tutoring session per week for 2 hours plus preparation time (approx. 1/2 hour per session) is recommended but can vary based on learner needs and Program Coordinator suggestion. Qualifications: • Excellent command of English language, both written and oral • Competent in areas of reading, writing, and math (assessment required) • Demonstration of specialized skill set in a specific field • High school diploma (or equivalent) • Be at least 19 years of age • A clear Vulnerable Sector Police Records Check and supporting references


Duties include:

• Provide your learner with encouragement and support

• Meet your learner’s learning plan goals 

• Create long- and short-term goals with the learner. 

• Use materials appropriate to the learner's level and goals. 

• Teach skills related to goals and objectives 

• With the Program Coordinator, arrange appropriate times and locations to meet with the learner. 

• Inform both learner and Coordinator if unable to attend tutoring session 

• Keep records (attendance, progress, lesson plans) and report to Program Coordinator monthly 

• Contact Program Coordinator immediately if there are any questions/concerns/queries 

• Participate in evaluation of the program, the Program Coordinator, and learner progress
