About This Opportunity

Many of the single-parent families we serve have children who struggle to read, write, spell, and keep up in math because of learning differences. When these students gain reading fluency before they reach secondary school, their chances of thriving in high-school courses—and pursuing college or skilled trades—skyrocket. Unfortunately, the specialist tutoring they need normally costs $90–100 per hour, far beyond our families’ reach.

What We Provide

  • Proven Method: One-on-one tutoring grounded in the science-based Orton-Gillingham (OG) approach, renowned for helping learners with dyslexia and related challenges.

  • Free Professional Training: We invest 32 hours in every volunteer, covering OG theory, multisensory lesson design, behaviour support strategies, and hands-on practice. Training is led by certified OG instructors and includes all materials—at no cost to you.

  • Ongoing Support: Start by tutoring from one of our community centres (Vancouver, Greater Toronto, select partner sites) where an experienced mentor is on hand. You’ll have access to ready-made lesson templates, manipulatives, and monthly skill-building workshops.

    What’s in It for You

    • market-value certification in Orton-Gillingham methods—training employers and grad programs respect

    • Real-world experience adapting lessons for diverse learning styles

    • Professional references and a record of service hours

    • The joy of watching a child decode their first chapter book—or master long-division—because of you

-Enjoy breaking concepts into bite-size, multisensory steps

            • -Believe every child deserves to read with confidence
