Sawa World uses an innovative approach to instantly transform the lives of the unemployed and marginalized youth by giving them the skills to start micro-businesses in one day with locally-created and simple solutions to self-employment.
We provide large-scale access to local solutions that are created by the very people living in extreme poverty. Our programs are managed by a vibrant and youthful team at the Sawa world Solution Center in Kampala, Uganda. We also have staff and volunteers in Canada and the Netherlands, who support the work done in Uganda and around the world.

Position Description
The volunteer accountant will support the part-time accountant in Canada and the board chair of the organization in reviewing financial information from our program team in Uganda and developing specific detailed financial reports. One volunteer will be recruited for this position.
Main Duties
- Review monthly bank transactions from Uganda.
- Conduct monthly internal financial audits such as verification of receipts.
- Work with the Global Operational Coordinator to review monthly budget requests from Uganda and develop monthly reports on the requested budgets versus actuals.
- Improve our financial reporting templates including budget requests forms, project budgets, etc.
- Ensure alignment of financial reports with original approved budgets, such as matching line items.
- Develop financial summary reports for specific donor projects as needed.
- Support part-time accountant in Canada prepare quarterly financial statements and provide a short narrative insight for the board.
- 10+ years of experience in bookkeeping in Canada
- Solid working knowledge of QuickBooks
- Experience with general ledgers
- Experience in developing a range of financial reports
- Experience working with a non-profit organization is highly desirable
- Strong communication skills Self-managed and ability to work independently
- Possess analytical skills with attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt and be flexible especially when working with people from different time zones
- Fun and outgoing personality and ability to work as a team

- Based in Vancouver, BC Canada and can work from home office
