About the Lower Mainland Down Syndrome Society….
The Lower Mainland Down Syndrome Society is a not-for-profit society, established in 1989. Our members believe
that individuals with Down syndrome are capable of full participation in society and should be given the opportunity
to develop their potential.
To make this mission come to life, the Lower Mainland Down Syndrome Society aims to:
Provide information, support, and resources to individuals with Down Syndrome in BC and their families
Provide information about Down Syndrome and resources to people and organizations who support
individuals with Down Syndrome and their families
Advocate that governments and appropriate agencies provide the special resources often needed by individuals with Down Syndrome and their families
Lobby for appropriate educational, vocational, and social opportunities
Support families and increase public awareness
Network with other organizations and individuals
PURPOSE OF ROLE
The secretary is responsible for maintaining accurate documentation, records and meeting legal requirements, such as annual filing deadlines.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Secretary is responsible for ensuring that accurate minutes of meetings are taken and approved
The Secretary signs a copy of the final, approved minutes and ensures that this copy is maintained in the corporate records.
Attends all general meetings
The Secretary is accountable to the Board of Directors
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent organization skills in distributing and receiving documents
Excellent time management in preparing and submitting documents as needed
Excellent written, and verbal communications skills
Confident in managing meetings to ensure all Robert Rules requirements have been followed and met.
LMDSS (Lower Mainland Down Syndrome Society) uses Office 365 and Microsoft suite of apps to complete our business and to communicate internally. All Board members will be required to use Office 365 to meet our privacy guidelines and controls. We will support your learning needs.

Length of term: Two years, which may be renewed up to a maximum of four consecutive terms, pending on approval of the board.
