The Digital Literacy Project at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House (MPNH) supports the community to increase overall digital literacy by providing tutoring in basic computer skills and apps such as Zoom and Gmail, as well as supporting participants to access resources online.
Volunteer Digital Literacy Trainers work with the Digital Literacy Programmer to provide one-on-one digital literacy assistance to those with high digital literacy needs, including isolated seniors, low-income families and newcomers. Many participants are new to exploring digital life. Training sessions happen in-person and/or virtually, depending on participant needs. Examples of possible session topics include learning parts of the computer, browsing the internet, attaching a file to email, practising online safety, etc.
The Volunteer Digital Literacy Trainer:
- - Prepares and facilitates a weekly, hour-long one-on-one training session with an assigned participant
- - Checks in with program supervisor regularly
- - Program takes place weekdays during the daytime
- - M-F 9am-5pm
QUALIFICATIONS
- - 19 years or older
- - Intermediate level English speaker
- - Be able to speak Arabic
- - Confident in computer skills and smartphone basics
- - Demonstrates an ability or interest in learning facilitation skills
- - Empathetic, patient and respectful of a diverse group of people
All new MPNH volunteers must complete:
- - Volunteer Application Form and Policy signing form
- - Volunteer Interview and Orientation
- - Criminal Record Check
