Summary 

We're seeking a talented and creative individual to join our team of enthusiastic and compassionate staff and volunteers to become our volunteer Marketing Team Lead. The candidate should be comfortable working with teams and stakeholders who may not have formal marketing expertise, guiding them to understand how their contributions fit within the broader marketing strategy. This is a work from home role with a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week.

For over 20 years, Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) has been living our mission to end cat overpopulation and homelessness, and you can be part of that! At VOKRA, we rescue, heal, then place cats - first in our network of foster homes, then in carefully matched, loving, forever homes. We are a passionate, volunteer-driven charity with extensive cat care experience. Who You Are: 

The Marketing Team Lead at Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) is responsible for overseeing all marketing efforts aimed at increasing brand awareness, donor interest, grant opportunities, driving engagement, and supporting organizational goals. The role requires an individual with hands-on experience in digital marketing, website management, and communication and fundraising strategies. Reporting to the managing director, this role will closely collaborate with internal teams, external partners and sponsors, design professionals and board members to ensure the effective execution of marketing initiatives. 

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Marketing & Campaign Management: Design and execute comprehensive multi-channel marketing strategies that include digital, social media, and traditional channels. Develop targeted campaigns to support VOKRA’s fundraising efforts, adoptions, volunteer recruitment, and community outreach programs. Analyze and optimize campaigns using data-driven insights to ensure continuous improvement and achievement of key performance metrics. 

Sponsor and Partnership Relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with corporate sponsors, partners and focus on long-term engagement. Negotiate and secure sponsor / partnership opportunities that align with VOKRA’s mission and goals. 

Brand Management: Ensure brand consistency across all marketing and communication channels and materials, collaborating with graphic designers on all visual content. Develop and enforce brand guidelines, training staff and volunteers to represent the organization effectively. 

External Communications: Develop media strategies, collaborate with the Communications Team Lead to write compelling press releases, and manage media relations to promote VOKRA's initiatives. Collaborate with external communications agencies, partners, and media contacts to enhance the organization's visibility. 

Internal Communications & Team Collaboration: Work closely with the Communications and other internal teams, including graphic designers, web developers, and content creators, to produce high-quality and compelling marketing materials. Facilitate clear communication between internal teams/departments to ensure consistent messaging and strategic alignment. Support internal teams to create marketing materials for VOKRA events and donor engagement initiatives. 

Digital Marketing: Manage website content using CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Wix) and work with internal and external web developers to ensure functionality, security, and optimization. 

Event Planning & Support: Oversee marketing efforts and materials creation for VOKRAs internal and external events, including fundraising events, community outreach, and events to promote adoption. Lead marketing efforts for both in-person and virtual activities, ensuring sponsor visibility and promotional requirements, and audience engagement. Work with internal event organizers, external vendors and suppliers to coordinate promotional efforts and effective event execution. 

Marketing Analytics & Reporting: Track, analyze, and present key performance indicators (KPIs), including social media engagement, website traffic, conversations, email and online campaign performance, engagement rates and donor growth. Develop and manage the marketing budget and provide regular reports to the board on return on investment (ROI) for marketing activities. 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Digital Media, or a related field. 5+ years of experience in marketing roles, ideally within a nonprofit organization (NGO) or animal welfare sector. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven track record in external and internal communications. 
  • Strategic thinking with an ability to balance big-picture goals and day-to-day execution. 
  • Strong leadership skills, able to motivate and collaborate with cross-functional teams, volunteers, and sponsors / partners. 
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead marketing initiatives and ensure timely execution. 
  • Adaptable and creative problem-solver, capable of thriving in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. 
  • Proficient in using data to inform and create marketing strategies and drive results.Familiarity with donor engagement strategies, event marketing, and public relations within a nonprofit context. 
  • Proficiency with digital marketing tools such as Google Analytics, SEO tools, CRM systems, and social media management platforms. 
  • Hands-on experience with website management, including proficiency in CMS platforms (WordPress, Wix), basic HTML/CSS knowledge, and familiarity with web development best practices. 
  • Experience working with graphic designers and content creators to develop visually appealing and mission-aligned marketing materials.
