About This Opportunity
Responsibilities & Tasks: • To provide enriching social recreational experiences for a person living with dementia, using the resources available from the Alzheimer Society resource library (if needed).
• To visit the person living with dementia in their home at an arranged time that is convenient to both the family and the volunteer
• Commit to visiting the person living with dementia 1/week for 90 minutes, for up to 12 weeks • To be familiar with the background, skills, and interests of the person living with dementia, and be prepared with social engagement activity ideas.
• To be flexible to accommodate the changing needs of the person living with dementia • To participate in specific training for the role and become familiar with resources available in the Alzheimer Society Resource Library. Qualities and Skills: • Creative in adapting to the needs of the person living with dementia.
• Caring, compassionate, patient and flexible.
• Good active listening and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently. • Ability to accept direction and to ask for help when needed.
• Reliable and dependable.
• Sensitive and non-judgmental.

• Volunteer Orientation session
• AODA certificate of training
• ALZeducate (volunteer modules)
• Specific In Home Social Recreation role training

- Minimum Age
